Kefas orders the payment of the three months' worth of unpaid salary owed to TSU instructors.
Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has ordered that the lecturers at Taraba State University, TSU, immediately receive their back salary for the previous three months.

The governor issued the decision on Monday not long after he had a meeting in the Executive Chamber of the Government House in Jalingo, the state capital, with the administration of the institution and representatives of the staff union.

As may be remembered, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) unit within the organization expressed its sadness last week over the state government's refusal to pay members' salaries.

The governor denounced the impending strike threat made by the TSU ASUU chapter in his remarks to lecturers and officials of the students union, emphasizing that the unpaid salary had been passed on to his administration.

He noted that paying up the debt owed to the teachers is not just an issue of fiscal responsibility but also a moral duty.

The governor acknowledged the academic staff's role in helping to shape the state's future through education and went on to say that he was aware of how serious the issues the institution was facing.

He advised the lecturers union leadership to constantly embrace dialogue as a means of resolving issues facing the institution rather than viewing strikes as the most effective method of redressing grievances.

Professor Sunday Bako, the university's vice chancellor, praised the governor for agreeing to pay the lecturers' three months' salary in full.

In a similar spirit, Dr. Mbave Garba, the chairman of the ASUU, TSU Chapter, praised the governor for his choice.

According to data compiled by iGONG, the unpaid three months' pay are those for July, August, and September 2023.
