Commodore Kolawole Oguntuga, the commanding officer of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT, announced on Friday in Lagos that the patrol team of NNS BEECROFT apprehended the individuals during a raid conducted in the Ajah region of Lagos State.
According to the speaker, the raid led to the capture of individuals who engage in illicit activities such as extortion and intimidation of citizens, while falsely presenting themselves as members of the Navy.
According to the source, the impostors were found in possession of two Toyota Hilux cars, counterfeit Nigerian Navy identification cards, and various associated paperwork.
According to Oguntuga, the vehicles that were confiscated and bore the inscription "SAIL NAVY," together with the suspects and other pieces of evidence, have been transferred to the relevant agency for additional investigation and legal proceedings.
The commander emphasized the need of citizens maintaining a state of vigilance and promptly reporting any suspicious activity to the proper authorities. This joint effort is essential in ensuring the safety of the public and preventing any fraudulent acts.
According to Oguntuga, it was reported that a total of eight stowaways were apprehended on Thursday as NNS BEECROFT was conducting its regular patrol of the marine surroundings.
The patrol team of NNS BEECROFT apprehended the stowaways located within the rudder compartment of the vessel and subsequently transferred them to the relevant authorities.
