DSP Lawan Shi'isu, the state's police public relations officer (PPRO), made this announcement on Monday in Dutse.
Shi'isu reported that the suspect, a resident of the FCT's Gwarinpa quarters, was taken into custody by the police in the state's Birnin Kudu Local Government Area at around 11:20 a.m. on Sunday.
He claims that on Sunday at around 11:20 a.m., a patrol team from Birnin Kudu Divisional Police Headquarters detained a 35-year-old man from Gwarimpa Quarters Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, who was in possession of a white Honda car without a license plate and was highly suspected of being a stolen vehicle.
When the patrol guys saw the car traveling at a fast pace from a distance, he added, "all attempts to stop the driver proved futile because the driver was very agitated and refused to slow down."
He continued by saying that the culprit had hit a cyclist while attempting to elude the police, which led to the automobile being seized and forcibly halted.
The PPRO further stated that the suspect got out of the vehicle and took off, but was eventually apprehended and sent to the station.
Shi'isu claimed that the police had previously been alerted by the adjacent city of Bauchi that three unidentified individuals had entered S Fawa Motors on Murtala Muhammad Way in Bauchi and purported to purchase a stolen vehicle.
The suspects, according to him, demanded a test drive before making a purchase.
One of the salesman persisted on accompanying them, but as they continued on, the alleged auto thieves forcibly ejected him and drove off, abandoning him stranded.
However, the PPRO disclosed that Usman Zubairu of Federal Lowcost, Bauchi has now been discovered as the car's legitimate owner.
He said that Mr. Emmanuel Ekot, the state's police commissioner, gave the order to transfer the case to the Criminal probe Department (CID) at Police Headquarters Dutse for a covert probe.
After the investigation is over, the suspect will be charged in court, according to Shi'isu.
He added that efforts were being made to apprehend the culprits who were eluding capture. (NAN)
