In an ambush on an Enugu police patrol, gunmen kill the ASP and Inspector.
According to iGONG, two police officers were purportedly slain in Enugu State by unidentified gunmen.


The thugs assaulted a mobile police patrol team on Wednesday night, killing the cops.


The Operation Restore Peace Enugu squad was on a routine patrol along the Udi-Ozalla Road when the incident occurred.


Danjuma Joseph, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), and Inspector Abu Elamaje were named as the victims.


According to the source, they were taken urgently to the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) Ituku-Ozalla for treatment, but the on-call physicians there declared them dead.


Inspector Udeme Udomeng, a different officer, was treated and released after receiving gunshot wounds.


According to a source within the command, "MINE and other command tactical teams reinforced at the area of incident on cordon and search operations for possible arrest of suspects," according to a report in the Daily Sun. A communication of future developments is required.


It's not known who killed the policemen—a different group of hoodlums or the kidnappers who have been on the loose in various sections of the State.


The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has referred to the state's high rate of kidnapping as outrageous and immoral.


The top Igbo organization demanded that the State's whole security system be overhauled.


The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Enugu State Police Command, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, did not respond to calls from iGONG attempting to get a response from him.


As of the time this complaint was filed, he had not responded to a text message that was sent to him.


Just two days prior, in Imo State, eight or so security personnel were also ambushed and slain.
