In Abuja, a fake policeman receives a 17-month sentence.
Isah Tafida has been sentenced to a period of 17 months in jail by the Lugbe Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja. This verdict was reached due to Tafida's act of deceitfully impersonating a law enforcement officer.

Tafida, a resident residing at 4th Avenue FHA Lugbe Abuja, was accused of engaging in acts of impersonation, criminal breach of trust, and cheating.

The sentence was pronounced by Judge Aliyu Kagarko after to Tafida's admission of guilt to three charges brought against him, accompanied by a plea for leniency sent to the court.

In contrast, Kagarko offered an alternative solution whereby Tafida may remit a fine amounting to N60,000. This proposition took into account the defendant's acknowledgment of culpability, so circumventing protracted legal proceedings.

The presiding authority advised Tafida to demonstrate appropriate conduct and mandated him to provide restitution in the amount of N56,000 to the aggrieved party. Failure to comply with this directive would result in a 7-month incarceration as an alternative to fulfilling the compensation requirement.

In the preceding statement, it was conveyed by the prosecutor, Mr. Stanley Nwaforaku, to the court that the individuals making the complaint, Mr. Celestine Mathew and Isaac Obadiah, who both reside at 4th Avenue FHA Lugbe Abuja, brought the occurrence to the attention of the Lugbe Police Station on September 16th.

According to Naforaku's account, over a period in September, the inmate assumed a false identity as a law enforcement official, exhibiting an identification card that had his name and photograph.

The individual deceived the individuals making complaints by making misleading assertions regarding the recruitment activities of the Nigeria Police Force, thereby offering them the assurance of being enlisted.

The prisoner, operating under deceptive circumstances, illicitly obtained a sum of N56,000 from the complainants, purportedly for the purpose of acquiring police forms, uniforms, and transportation to the Ikeja police academy in Lagos. However, he ultimately failed to uphold his commitment.

During the course of the investigation, it was ascertained that Tafida had been terminated from their position as a police officer. The individual in question acknowledged his involvement in the events under investigation during the official interrogation conducted by law enforcement authorities. Additionally, a police identification card bearing his name and photograph was recovered from his possession.

Tafida's actions are seen to be in contravention of the stipulations outlined in sections 321, 322, and 179 of the Penal Code.
