High-profile corruption cases have been lost due to frivolous rulings, according to the EFCC.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) attributes its losses in corruption cases on spurious court judgments.

The anti-corruption agency also expressed dissatisfaction with its lack of success in obtaining convictions in cases of corruption, especially those of significant public interest.

The aforementioned statement was articulated by Wilson Uwajaren, the spokesperson for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), during a press interview conducted in the state of Kaduna.

Uwajaren elucidated several obstacles that hinder the expeditious prosecution of corruption cases and the attainment of convictions.

According to his perspective, the incurred losses can be attributed to court rulings that were deemed frivolous owing to their reliance on technicalities rather than factual evidence and considerations of national interest.

Additionally, the arbitrary postponement of corruption trials and other contributing factors were also identified.

According to his statement, the commission achieved around 7,700 convictions nationwide in the year 2022.
