Fuel Subsidy: Workers impose some NLC strike compliance in Kogi
On Tuesday, there was observed partial compliance with the strike proclaimed by the Nigeria Labour Congress in Kogi State. The strike was initiated in response to the fuel subsidy withdrawal implemented by President Ahmed Bola Tinubu's Federal Government.

According to the findings of INFOGONG, it was observed that certain ministries and parastatals were operational, while others remained closed and inaccessible.

The strike was partially observed by many institutions, including the Ministry of Health, Education, Agriculture at the Kogi State Secretariat in Zone Eight Lokoja, Kogi State Specialist Hospital, Federal Teaching Hospital Lokoja, Federal University Lokoja, and Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).

In the meantime, financial institutions located in Lokoja, the capital city of Kogi State, carried on their routine activities by providing services to their clientele.

In a conversation, Comrade Gabriel Amari, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Kogi State, stated that union members are actively working towards achieving complete adherence to the strike, as instructed by the national Secretariat.

According to reports received from the field, there is a notable level of compliance that is quite encouraging. In addition to the banks located in Kogi State, other ministries and organizations within the region adhered to the direction issued by the national Secretariat. I would want to express my admiration for the workers in Kogi State and Nigeria as a whole, for their unwavering commitment to advocating for a righteous cause within the annals of our nation's history. The speaker expressed optimism, stating that we shall collectively experience a sense of joy and relief, symbolized by the presence of illumination at the conclusion of a challenging period.

Amari asserted that the union is steadfast in its dedication to advocating for the rights of workers in Kogi State, as well as Nigeria as a whole. Additionally, Amari argued that the decision made by the Federal Government to eliminate fuel subsidies is not only detrimental to the general population, but has also resulted in a significant number of Nigerians becoming reliant on external assistance within their own nation.

It is important to note that the Nigeria Labour Congress recently initiated a two-day warning strike as a means of expressing their dissatisfaction with the Federal Government's perceived failure to effectively handle the issues arising from the removal of fuel subsidy.

The labor union has additionally levied allegations against the Federal Government, asserting that it has neglected the ongoing negotiations and has not effectively executed several agreements that were agreed upon in prior meetings.

On August 2nd, 2023, the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) organized nationwide protests to publicly express their dissatisfaction with the Federal Government's decision to remove fuel subsidies. The NLC and TUC criticized the new policy implemented by President Tinubu's administration, deeming it detrimental to the welfare of the populace and urging all Nigerians to reject it.
