Flood: the government of Benue State will unblock water channels

The statement was made by Hon. Joy Luga, the Commissioner for Cooperatives, Urban and Rural Development, during a visit to areas prone to flooding in order to assess the extent of damage caused by recent intense rainfall in the region.

According to her, the occurrence of flooding is a worldwide phenomenon that is not exclusive to Benue State.

Luga cautioned against the construction of houses on water channels and recommended homeowners to consistently obtain consent from the Urban Development Board before to initiating any building endeavor.

In a previous communication, Town Planner Mede, the General Manager of the Urban Development Board, apprised the commissioner of the prevailing issue of flooding in various sections of the urban area. This unfortunate situation has been attributed to the non-compliance of residents with the guidelines set forth by the board.

Consequently, he urged individuals from the general populace to consistently construct in accordance with prescribed specifications and guidelines.

Moreover, Mr. Timothy Audu, the Chairman of the Landlords Association in Kanshio, expressed to the commissioner that the community is inclined to collaborate with the ministry in order to facilitate the clearance of obstructed water channels.
