The acts of smuggling among Nigerian youths have been denounced by Raymond Edoh, the UN-Habitat ambassador to Nigeria.


He contends that drastic action is urgently required to reduce its damaging effects on the economy.


In a meeting with Acting Comptroller-General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi on Tuesday, Edoh made this statement.


According to him, the purpose of the trip was to develop a plan and help the Acting Comptroller-General of Customs take immediate action to address the ongoing smuggling problem that is harming the country's economy.


Edoh emphasized the urgent necessity for audacious action to reduce smuggling's detrimental effects on the economy while expressing serious concern over the issue's pervasiveness.


"Smuggling has seriously harmed our economy and permeated every aspect of it. Dr. Raymond Edoh stressed during his visit that we must act swiftly to tackle this problem.


Edoh stated that he is dedicated to mobilizing and empowering young people as a dynamic force for change, utilizing their capacity to spread awareness and actively participate in the battle against smuggling.


"Our young, motivated workforce is eager to contribute to the growth of our country. We can effectively spread awareness about smuggling by involving and mobilizing them.

The fight against smuggling is just one of the many difficulties he has faced in his attempt to bring about positive change across the country, according to Edoh, who also emphasized the importance of teamwork in resolving this urgent issue.


The CG of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, clarified an important facet of the issue in reaction to Edoh's visit and his emphasis on combating smuggling. He emphasized the alarming pattern of ships arriving in Nigeria frequently leaving empty, highlighting the necessity to take advantage of this circumstance for products export in order to support the naira, the currency of the country.
