On Friday, September 1, 2023, while obtaining firewood in Afana village, Zango Kataf Local Government Area of the State, Jonathan was brutally killed.
The murderer, Lot Dauda, was apprehended through a manhunt launched by troops of Operations Safe Haven who acted immediately based on credible intelligence obtained, according to an army statement released on Thursday. Lot Dauda confessed to having committed the crime alongside an accomplice (name withheld) now at large.
According to the statement, "following stakeholder engagement on September 10, 2023, troops of OPSH have captured the murderer of one Mrs. Dorathy Jonathan in Southern Kaduna area of Kaduna State. This is in line with the Commander, Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH), Major General AE Abubakar's resolve to bring all perpetrators of crime in Southern Kaduna and environ to justice.
"The murderer said that he approached Mrs. Dorathy while she was working on a farm and wanted to get intimate with her, but she resisted and was brutally murdered as a result.
The other accomplice is still being sought, while the arrested suspect will be charged with a crime once the inquiry is over.
