The recommendation was made by Kikelomo Adeniyi, president of the Customs Officers Wives Association (COWA), on Friday while visiting the Idiroko headquarters of the Ogun 1 Area Command of the NCS.
In her speech, Mrs. Adeniyi praised the sacrifices made by NCS personnel to promote trade and protect Nigeria and Nigerians.
"We recognize the occupational risks you face when dealing with irrational daredevil smugglers who are out to undermine the government's economic plans.
"This is why I'm urging the COWA members to assist their husbands fully at home. Please don't put your husbands under any more strain. Make the house a haven for them where they can retreat to unwind after a long day of work, she advised.
The wife of the acting customs comptroller general revealed that the purpose of her visit, along with other association members, was to inform the Comptroller Bamidele Makinde-led Command of the work of COWA, a non-profit group founded in 2009 to advance the welfare of the families of customs officers.
According to Adeniyi, another part of COWA's mandate is to provide assistance to orphanages all around the nation as well as to the widows and kids of fallen Customs officials.
"We are trying to open the COWA Nursery and Primary School, as well as the COWA Secondary School, in order to better educate our children and relieve the financial burden on Customs employees who must pay excessive tuition costs for their children's private school education.
"We need your help to successfully implement these programs, which we believe will have a good impact on the lives of Customs officers and their families. You are our husbands and heads of the family.
"We would appreciate it if you could help the association financially. The COWA President appealed, "We guarantee you of caution and accountability in the management of the resources given at our disposal.
She called on COWA members to collaborate with border community leaders to lessen smuggling activities and asked smugglers to stop their illegal activity.
