Atiku condemns the Nigerian diphtheria outbreak
Atiku Abubakar, a former vice president, has denounced the spread of the deadly bacterial disease diphtheria in some regions of the nation.

In a tweet on his official X account on Tuesday, the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) presidential candidate for the general elections of 2023 responded to the diphtheria outbreak in the nation.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and 18 states in the nation, according to the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), have reported 453 deaths from 7,202 confirmed cases of diphtheria in 105 local government units.

Atiku responded by saying, "My heart goes out to the families and parents of the victims of this awful sickness.

I implore the NCDC, the main healthcare authorities, the Federal and State Ministries of Health and Social Welfare, as well as all other pertinent organizations, to intensify their efforts to stop the spread of this disease, which is swiftly turning into an epidemic.
