Senator David Umahi, Minister of Works, has given the companies in charge of the Abuja-Lokoja highways a two-month deadline to fix the problems.
The former governor of Ebonyi State said he was dissatisfied with some of the contractors during an interview on Channels Television on Thursday.
The Minister also disclosed plans to inspect most federal highways around the nation to determine their state of dilapidation before formulating a plan to repair them.
He declared, "I have given the contractors on the Abuja-Lokoja road two months to fix all the issues and have directed them to resume work immediately.
"Today I'm heading to the Kaduna-Kano road, and on Tuesday I'll be on the Southwest roads. I have to examine the situation myself.
