On Thursday, Otokiti Alhassan Zakariya, the head of the House Committee on Public Accounts, revealed this information at a briefing with the assembly's press corps.
The speaker said that the Eighth Assembly possesses knowledge on some unethical activities being carried out by deceitful individuals within the state. Furthermore, it was emphasized that individuals found guilty will be subjected to the whole enforcement of legal consequences.
Zakariya, the incumbent representative of the Okehi state constituency, expressed the assembly's commitment to fostering intergovernmental cooperation in order to effectively address the issue of corruption within Kogi State.
In elaboration, the newly elected legislator noted that legislative affairs encompass the process of enacting laws and proposing commendable motions and bills. The oversight job entails conducting regular examinations of the financial records of ministries and parastatals to ensure proper governance and prevent instances of corruption.
It is well acknowledged that in any context involving the movement of money, unethical actions are likely to occur. Our supervision function will be utilized to diligently examine the account records of ministries, assuring impartiality and objectivity in the process.
We will approach this task with prudence, ensuring that no individual is subjected to unfair scrutiny, regardless of their position within the state. Our approach will prioritize transparency and clarity. Individuals who have intentions to engage in fraudulent activities or misappropriate public funds and resources for personal gain will be held accountable in accordance with legal regulations.
