The two-story structure that collapsed in the early hours of today, August 24, along Lagos Street near the intersection with Nsukka Street, Garki Abuja, has been confirmed as having two fatalities by the FCT police command.


According to a statement made by the command's spokesperson, DSP Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police Command responded to the incident quickly after getting the distress call and sent specialized search and rescue teams to the location in order to save lives and assure the safety of everyone involved.


According to her, the command made every attempt to find and rescue individuals who were stuck. Twenty people have so far been saved from the scene, but two others tragically perished.


We are working in close coordination with other relevant agencies, including the Fire Service, Emergency Medical Services, and disaster response teams to streamline our rescue efforts. she said


Adeh added that CP Haruna G. Garba, the police commissioner, personally went to the scene to inspect the situation and to express his sympathies to the impacted families. He was grateful for the community's and the nearby volunteers' amazing assistance in carrying out the rescue mission.

According to Adeh, the CP sent his condolences and prayers to the victims and their families and advised people to avoid the scene of the event so that rescue efforts may continue without interruption.
