Supposed assassins break into an Edo church, shoot the pastor, and then kill his wife.

In Edo State, gunmen who are believed to be paid assassins attacked Rev. Samuel Chinyereugo and killed his wife, Peace. 

It was reported that on Monday, August 14, 2023, at around 7:36 p.m., gunmen broke into the God's Vineyard of Grace Dominion Assembly church at 101 Upper Lawani Street in New Benin, Benin City, and started shooting at the pastor. 

According to reports, the attack also left the assistant pastor with head wounds. 

According to a source who did not want his identity published, the shooters followed the pastor as he drove to the church with his wife. As soon as they stopped their car in front of the church, the gunmen opened fire on them.

 

The source claimed that when the pastor and his wife dropped by, "some church members, including the assistant pastor, were outside the church having a rehearsal before a program scheduled to start that day." 

The pastor claimed that when visiting a friend in GRA, he had earlier spotted a car following him. He was astonished, he added, when the same automobile suddenly stopped behind him in front of his church.

 "The two other assailants opened fire from the rear as one of the three armed men who got out of the car approached the pastor and grabbed the cross pendant from his necklace."

 While her husband and his deputy were treated and released from the hospital, the pastor's wife was hit by bullets and passed away at a hospital a short time later.

SP Chidi Nwabuzor, the state's police spokesperson, who verified the event, said the command has launched a thorough investigation to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
