Reps want the ICPC to look into the VCs' extortion-related accounts.
On Thursday, the House of Representatives expressed its commitment to engage the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in conducting an investigation into the individual responsible for the bank account purportedly utilized for extorting vice chancellors of federal universities.

During the resumed investigative hearing, Yusuf Gagdi, the chairman of the ad-hoc committee tasked with examining job racketeering and mismanagement of the Integrated Personnel Payment Information System (IPPIS) by Federal Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), made the aforementioned disclosure.

He stated that he had already communicated with the ICPC on the investigation of the account number that was disclosed by the media organization. The purpose of the investigation is to determine the account owner and ascertain whether any transactions have been conducted by vice-chancellors, rectors of polytechnics, and heads of tertiary institutions in the nation.

The emergence of this development coincides with a media story alleging that members of the panel had accepted payments from vice chancellors of federal universities and rectors of polytechnics.

On Thursday, the rectors of federal polytechnics throughout the country rebutted charges that they were solicited for bribery by members of the House of Representatives.

Yahaya Mohammed, the spokesperson for the polytechnic rectors present at the resumed investigative hearing, refuted the claim that they had engaged with any panel member or received instructions to make bribe payments, during his address on behalf of the Committee of Federal Polytechnics’ Rectors.

Mohammed, who serves as the Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda in Zamfara State, provided clarification on this matter during his appearance before the committee on Thursday.

This marks our initial encounter with the committee. Yesterday, the entirety of our group arrived in Abuja. Dear Chairman, it has come to our attention that we have not received any account number or name from any member of the committee.

The individual stated their willingness to provide a sworn testimony affirming that no account number has been received from any member of the committee.
