Additionally, a 14-member Flood Disaster Management Committee was established with the aim of mitigating the impacts of floods within the region.
This decision was made during the inaugural State Executive Council meeting, which was chaired by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Wednesday in Asaba.
During the press briefing held to conclude the meeting, Comrade Reuben Izeze, the State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), stated that the governor intends to submit the proposal to the State House of Assembly for their approval about the allocation of palliative measures.
According to the individual, Exco has granted sanction for the development of several roads in support of the M.O.R.E Agenda implemented by the administration led by Governor Oborevwori. It was further stated that all senatorial districts have been included in this initiative, and these roads are deemed crucial for enhancing the economic well-being of the populace.
The Executive Council (Exco) has also granted approval for the disbursement of the 2023 counterpart fund for the Universal Basic Education Programme, as well as for the organization and hosting of the 7th Edition of the National Youth Games inside the state.
The Commissioner for Economic Planning, Mr. Sonny Ekedayen, expressed that the Exco has also granted approval for the allocation of N167 billion as a supplementary budget for the year 2023.
According to the individual, Exco has also provided authorization for a credit facility amounting to N40 billion to be extended to the 25 local government councils within the state. This financial assistance is intended to alleviate a significant portion of the unpaid retirement payments owed to pensioners affiliated with the local government.
