A reward has been given to a police officer who refused a bribe from a transporter of stolen items.

When Inspector Charity Oyor, who was on duty in Onitsha, noticed a car loaded with wires, she thought it looked odd and chose to flag it down. However, when she was offered a bribe, she declined it and invited operatives, who later discovered the products were stolen.

The policewoman received N250,000 as compensation from the Police Commissioner for her hard work, according to a press release from DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the state police command's spokeswoman.

Ikenga wrote: "A policewoman working in the Main Market Division of Onitsha has received a monetary reward of Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira N250,000 from the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Aderemi Adeoye.

On Wednesday, August 23, 2023, Inspector Charity Oyor of the police observed a shuttle bus traveling by that was carrying six bulky bundles of stripped armored cable that she thought had been stolen.

"She stopped the vehicle and asked the alleged owner about the package. He declined to explain how he got to be in possession of the cable and instead offered her a bribe.

"The Police Inspector called her DPO Superintendent Joy Chidinma Ikpeama, who then sent police officers to the scene and took the culprit into custody. The cable was seized, then brought to the Station for examination.

The suspect once more promised N500,000 at the police in exchange for being let go. The officers disapproved of this. The Commissioner of Police was promptly briefed by the DPO on the capture and recovery.

Ikenga claimed that the State CID in Awka has been given the case to investigate in order to determine where the used cables originated.

Adeoye praised Inspector Charity Oyor for her integrity and the DPO for offering strong leadership during the Friday cash award ceremony in the commissioner's office.

He advised all Command Personnel to always defend professional ethics by refusing to be compromised in the conduct of their duties.

The DPO praised the Commissioner of Police for setting a good example for his staff, saying that they were motivated by him.
