Police in Adamawa detain three people in connection with the 38-year-old man's slaying.

Three suspects have been detained by the Adamawa State Police Command in connection with the murder of Umar Abdullahi in Yola, the state's capital.

Umar, 38, was assassinated last week close to his home on Ajiya Street, a neighborhood in Jimeta, Yola North Local Government Area.

When Umar refused to give over his phone to a group of young people after they demanded it, the young people stabbed him repeatedly, killing him.

In a brief statement provided to newsmen on Wednesday afternoon, the state police command stated that three people had been detained in relation to the event.

Suleiman Nguroje, a police image maker, signed the statement, which listed the suspects' ages as Ismail Isah, 21, Umar Usman Sola, 17, and Suleiman Muhammed, 16.

The three, who reside at various addresses, were also detained, according to the police, "following the attack and killing of the said Umar Abdullahi."
