Mitchel Musso, a star of Hannah Montana, was detained for stealing snacks.

Mitchel Musso, a star of Hannah Montana, was detained on suspicion of stealing a packet of crisps and being intoxicated in public.

The actor co-starred with Miley Cyrus and Billy Ray Cyrus in the Disney sitcom as Oliver Oken.

Police were called to a hotel in Rockwell, Texas on Saturday after learning that the 32-year-old was suspected of stealing the snacks, according to NBC.

Musso's representatives have been contacted by BBC News for comment.

Musso allegedly refused to pay for the crisps when asked and started swearing.

Musso's background check by police apparently revealed multiple active traffic warrants for the actor.

Musso spent the night in jail before being freed on a $1,000 (£793) bond on Sunday.

In addition, the actor is accused of driving without a valid license, having an expired registration on his automobile, and breaking a "promise to appear" notice.

The jail records were obtained by NBC, who also released a photo of Musso's mugshot.

Musso was previously detained in 2011 in Burbank, California, for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

He was fined, given a 36-month period of unofficial probation, and ordered to take alcohol education programs as punishment for that offense.

Between 2006 and 2011, the US comedy Hannah Montana featured a teenage girl who had a double life as a well-known music artist.

It featured her real-life father, country musician Billy Ray Cyrus, against Miley Cyrus, who has since gone on to have a successful solo career.

Since the series' finale, Musso has voiced a character in Milo Murphy's Law, another Disney series, and acted in the movies Sins of our Youth and The Sand.
