Man remanded by sharia court for allegedly hitting ex-wife

Suleiman Shu'aibu, 46, was ordered to be detained in a correctional facility on Thursday by a Kano Shari'a Court after he allegedly battered his ex-wife and called her a prostitute.

Shu'aibu, a resident of Rumawa Quarters in Kano, is accused of using unlawful force and character slander.

The case was postponed until September 7 for a hearing after the judge, Nura Yusuf-Ahmad, ordered that the defendant be remanded in a correctional facility.

Adama reported the incident to the Zango Police Division in Kano on August 21, according to information provided earlier by the prosecution's attorney, Mr. Aliyu Abideen.

He said that the defendant attacked his ex-wife Adama Munka'il with force on August 18 about 10:00 am because he observed her with a new boyfriend and referred to her as a prostitute.

Despite denying calling her a prostitute, the defendant entered a guilty plea to the first count accusation.

The prosecutor claims that the offense was against sections 165 and 188 of Kano State Shari'a Law.(NAN)
