A crowd in Lapai, the administrative center of the Lapai local government area of Niger state, burned a suspected ritualist on fire.

On Friday in the late afternoon, just before the Jumma't prayer, the incident took place in Lapai.

According to reports, the suspect, Dule Sakon Kano, who was in charge of two children when he was set ablaze, confessed to having been involved in the incident for a while while being questioned by the mob.

He admitted to giving stolen children to their "master" in the neighborhood.

For the previous few months, there had been an uninterrupted pattern of cases of youngsters suddenly disappearing both inside and beyond Lapai town.

When the suspect was eventually apprehended, he had two kids, who were between the ages of four and five, ready to be transported to an unidentified location.

The two kids were despatched on a mission to get some household items from a local store at around 1:30 pm on Friday, just before the prayers, according to information obtained with confidence by our correspondent.

An eyewitness told newsmen over the phone, "The suspect, before being set ablaze, had admitted to having committed the crime and that he was on his way to deliver the two children to his agent."

"After children continued to vanish from the neighborhood in previous years without being apprehended by law authorities, the outraged locals were forced to use force.

The eyewitness continued, "The suspect took to his heel when the people discovered his goal and was arrested along Government Girls Secondary School, GGSS, burial site road and he was taken on the road to the center of Lapai town where he was ultimately burned to ashes.

According to him, the crowd had left the area before Lapai police arrived and the suspect's body had been completely burned beyond recognition.
