For more than five years, Boko Haram prevented Borno colleges from holding convocations - Zulum

Insurgents from Boko Haram prevented universities in the state from hosting convocations for five years, according to Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum.

When the top management team of the Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB), led by its vice chancellor, Professor Kyari Mohammed, paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House in Maiduguri on Friday, August 11, Zulum revealed this.

The Governor also instructed Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement, Engr. Ibrahim Idris, to draft a proposal for immediate approval to construct appropriate staff quarters and student hostels for NAUB, in order to alleviate the problem of accommodation. The Governor announced a donation of N50 million to help NAUB in its preparations for the conduct of its first convocation, scheduled to take place on October 28, 2023.

He stated:

We are all "living witnesses" to the horrors committed by Boko Haram, which have prevented many of our educational institutions from holding convocation ceremonies in the state during the past five years.

By the special grace of Allah (God), peace has now returned to our beloved state. As a result, my government will assist all tertiary institutions in holding their convocation ceremonies. This is crucial because it is at convocation that the top students are recognized and awarded by the government.

I would also like to take this occasion to let the management team know that the current administration is figuring out ways to guarantee that Borno State Government will finance the academic studies of the top performers from Borno North, Central, and Southern senatorial districts at NAUB.
