FG files 20 new charges against Emefiele after dropping the "illegal firearm" accusation.

The Federal Government has dropped the illegal possession of guns allegation that it had filed against suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele before the Federal High Court in Lagos.

Remember that after Emefiele was charged, Justice Nicholas Oweibo granted him N20 million bail and ordered his confinement at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre awaiting the fulfillment of his bail conditions.

Despite meeting the bail condition, the DSS detained Emefiele for "some investigative reasons."

On Tuesday, August 15, Mohammed Bakodo Abubakar, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) at the Federal Ministry of Justice, made an oral request to the federal high court in Ikoyi to drop the charge of illegal possession of guns.

Defense attorney Joseph Daudu (SAN), who argued against it, charged the federal government of disregarding the initial court decision that released Emefiele on bail.

After the hearings, Abubakar spoke with the media and stated that new charges had been brought before the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court. Emefiele is accused of "conferring unlawful advantages" in one of the counts.
