Peter Obi, the Labour Party's (LP) presidential candidate in the most recent general elections, has urged Nigerian youngsters to maintain optimism and hope for the impending establishment of a new Nigeria that will be centered on youth development and production.
This request was made by Obi in his speech to commemorate International Youth Day this year.
He said that the nation's current political turbulence and economic difficulties should not deter young people from the fight for a new and better Nigeria, but rather inspire them to do so.
We won't be able to create the New Nigeria of our aspirations unless we continue to be dedicated to the fight for a better country. On our path to a new country, we must be strong and endure in the face of every challenge and impediment, Obi added.
According to the former governor of Anambra, if the nation's leaders focus on youth development and production, many of its problems will be solved.
He attributed the high unemployment rates among the young population in their prime working years to a high level of social insecurity, vices associated with youngsters such as drug and other substance addiction, as well as the high inflation rate in the nation.
The difficulty of increasing insecurity, rising inflation, and other issues won't be resolved, he claimed, until job possibilities are created and significant support is given to the expansion of small enterprises nationwide.
