President Bola Tinubu has been warned against engaging in any kind of military intervention in the Niger Republic by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).
Any military action in Niger, according to CAN, could cause animosity between the two nations.
The head of CAN, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, praised President Tinubu's diplomatic move in sending Abdulsalami Abubakar, a former military head of state, and Sa'ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto, to talk with the coup leaders in the Niger Republic.
"The national leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) commends President Ahmed Tinubu and the Authority of the ECOWAS Heads of Government for their unwavering commitment to deter coups d'état and the forceful takeover of power," according to a statement by Okoh. Additionally, we salute their admirable efforts to end the situation that currently affects our neighbors in the Republic of Niger.
"CAN fully acknowledges the seriousness of the situation in Niger and the significance of preserving democratic values, peace, and stability in the West African area. For the development and general welfare of our countries and people, we think that peaceful dispute resolution is essential.
"We commend President Ahmed Tinubu for using diplomacy to resolve the problem by dispatching a high-level delegation, under the leadership of distinguished statesman General Abdulsalam Abubakar, to speak with the Nigerien government. This diplomatic approach shows President Tinubu's dedication to nonviolent communication and his faith in the ability of constructive engagement to advance understanding and settle disputes.
"We also applaud the delegation's presence of Alhaji Sa'ad Abubakar III, the respected Sultan of Sokoto. This illustration shows how Nigerian leaders have a common goal and work together in a spirit that cuts beyond racial and religious lines to advance regional peace.
"CAN also applauds the noteworthy actions of other significant leaders who have interacted with the Nigerien authorities in their individual capacities while utilizing his personal relationships. Their knowledge, expertise, and advice will surely help to end the crisis in Niger and bring back stability and peace to the area.
"CAN urges President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to stay on the path of dialogue and avoid any type of military intervention or measures that would foster hostility between the good people of Nigeria and Niger," says the group that is deeply committed to promoting justice, peace, and harmony.
