Thomas Tuchel, the manager of Bayern Munich, apologized to Harry Kane following his team's 3-0 German Super Cup loss to RB Leipzig on Saturday.
On their home field, the Bundesliga champions were startled by a hat-trick from Dani Olmo.
Kane was introduced by Tuchel early in the second half after just finishing his summer transfer from Tottenham Hotspur earlier in the day.
The Allianz Arena game's final score was unaffected by the England captain, though.
"I'm just sad for Harry Kane," Tuchel said following the game. "He probably believes we haven't trained for four weeks.
"Today's performance was in no way in line with our goals. I apologize; it's been a very bitter evening.
