On Friday, August 12, a police officer from the Iponri Divisional Police Station was attacked by motorcycle riders in the Ijora Olopa neighborhood of Lagos State, and at least one of them was slain.
According to reports, the cops were attacked by the thugs who were carrying dangerous weapons including cutlasses, clubs, and charms when they went to the area to enforce the Lagos State government's restriction order on Okada riders. The police response team from the Rapid Response Squad and other policemen from the divisions sent to the site to stop a further breakdown of law and order in the region stopped the attackers from attacking the cops and tried to set their operation van on fire.
One of the two police officers who were critically hurt in the attack later died, according to SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), who confirmed the occurrence to iGONG.
