On Saturday, August 26, 2023, a man who has not yet been recognized was allegedly shot dead by troops in the Lagos mainland neighborhood of Ebute Meta/Otto after an altercation with three youngsters who were purportedly omo onile (land owners).
According to reports, the soldiers were sent in to protect some Chinese laborers who were performing maintenance work alongside the railroad tracks, but some local teenagers attempted to halt the work.
Punch was informed by a local source that the boys frequently had conflicts with the construction workers.
"Because they believe the police could not control the lads, the Chinese workers have stopped calling the police. Therefore, the source added, they brought soldiers.
The Railway Command was in command of the region, according to Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command.
The PPRO stated, "The Railway Command has jurisdiction over it, not us.
The magazine received confirmation of the occurrence from a source in the police command who voiced displeasure about the supposedly ongoing atrocities committed by soldiers in Lagos.
