2,300 troops will participate in the November election, according to the Imo REC

For the Imo State governorship election on November 11, 2023, no fewer than 2,300 soldiers would be stationed there.

Professor Sylvia Agu, the Imo Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, made this announcement yesterday at a media round table for journalists that the International Press Centre, IPC, in association with the European Union, EU, hosted in Owerri.

Without a doubt, she continued, "insecurity is still a problem. The fact that the commander of the 34 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier General Sani Suleiman, has pledged to send out enough security troops to guarantee a smooth poll in the state, however, is a source of joy.

In fact, he stated that more than 2,300 soldiers would be stationed in the state on November 11, 2023, the day of the governor's election. When the Commission met with the state's security services, he made the guarantee.

General polls were marked by anomalies.

In response to questions from the audience, Professor Agu acknowledged that there had been irregularities and security concerns during the state's most recent presidential, national assembly, and house of assembly elections.

"I acknowledge that there were security concerns and observable irregularities during the most recent presidential, national, and state assembly elections," she said.

"I implore the people of Imo to use their right to vote in the upcoming election without being afraid of being victimized by non-state actors.

"Despite the state's unrest, we made every effort to make sure the election went off without a hitch. One month prior to the general election, I arrived in Imo State to familiarize myself with the political scene. I was carrying too much weight.
